This is a contract between _______________ (horse owner) and Fair Oak Farm (FOF) for the board of ___ horse(s) (________________) under _______________ board at $______/ month/ horse, starting (date) _________.
Full-Care Board ($550.00/month) involves general horse care maintenance which includes but is not exclusive to graining (Pennfield Enduro-Event, Strategy pellets, Horseman's Edge pellets or sweet feed, or a grain of your choice within comparable price range and availability), haying (orchard grass/clover or timothy/light alfalfa mix), daily stall cleaning (bedding included), turn out/ bring in, blanket changing, watering, and checking of general health. Certain extra tasks (grooming, wrapping, injury care, etc.) may be included at an added cost. FOF can feed any extra supplements, additives, special feeds, or hays (i.e. alfalfa) if the items are provided to the farm by the horse owner. FOF can provide extra items with the cost included on the next month's board bill only if the said items can be easily obtained from the local feed/tack stores. Similarly, FOF will worm the horse at the owners or trainer's (____________) request, with the price of the wormer on the next month's bill. The horse owner or trainer is responsible for the shoeing/vet care of the horse. (The owner may use a farrier/vet of his/her choice.)
Full-Care/Grooming Board ($700.00/month) involves the same care as provided for by Full-Care Board, plus routine grooming and wrapping/ injury care procedures if needed .* (*Certain wrapping/injury care procedures may require an extra charge.) Grooming Board also includes tacking-up and untacking the horse (grooming, hosing-off) for the owner/rider if a specific time has been discussed with the FOF staff ahead of time. FOF will also coordinate shoeing/vet care if reasonable.
Full-Care/Training Board (with Eleanor Phillips) ($850.00/month) involves the same care as provided for by Full-Care Board, plus routine grooming and wrapping/injury care procedures*, shoeing/vetting coordination if reasonable, and regular riding and/or training of the horse as agreed upon by the horse owner and FOF.
Full-Care/Pasture Board ($450.00/month) (limited amount of this board available) involves the same care as provided for by Full-Care Board, except that the horse will live outside in a pasture with a protective shed. Full-Care/Pasture Board may be combined with Grooming or Training board for an added fee.
Daily-Rate Board involves the same care as provided for by Full-Care Board, but is for either temporary horses that only want to board for a few days or for a horse that will be boarded for a few extra days over the full month (i.e. a horse coming in a week before or staying a week after the beginning of the month). The price of Daily-Rate Board depends on the number of days the horse stays over or not included in a full month: a horse staying up to 6 days will pay a $40.00/day rate, a horse staying a week or more will pay a $30.00/day rate, and a horse that is staying a few extra days added to a regular month will pay a $20.00/day rate.
Board payment is due in full on the FIRST of the month , with the first month due prior to the horse's arrival to reserve the stall. A late fee of $25.00 will be added after the FITH of the month , with possible action taken if further delays occur. Stalls are rented on a full-month basis unless you are paying for Daily-Rate board. Under certain circumstances (i.e. the stall can be filled by another horse, etc.), the horse owner may be allowed to pay ½ month's board if the situation is discussed with and agreed upon by FOF ahead of time. A month's notice is required prior to the removal of the horse from the facility in order for the horse owner not to be responsible for the next month's board (ex: when paying January's board, please inform FOF that the horse will be leaving on the last day of the month. Some exceptions can be made with prior approval ).
The horse owner and/or trainer have full use of the facilities including a 12x12 stall (except for Pasture board), turnout with shelter, all rings, riding areas, jumps, etc.- but must respect FOF's rules and requests of usage. The horse owner will be responsible for damage (torn-up stalls, broken jumps, etc.) to the facility caused by his or her horse.
The horse must have current records of all required shots plus a Coggins within 12 months. West Nile and Strangles vaccinations are highly recommended because many of the horses in the barn compete up and down the East Coast. In the case of a medical emergency with the horse owner's horse(s) (i.e. colic, etc.), FOF will try to contact the horse owner and/or trainer, but FOF has the right to contact an available veterinarian to administer appropriate medical care in the event that the horse owner or trainer cannot be contacted in a timely manner. The horse owner will be responsible for the payment of all veterinary bills pertaining to his/her horse.
The horse owner agrees not to hold Fair Oak Farm, its owners, employees, agents, and related trainers (James L. Kofford) liable for injuries, loss of life, theft, or damage to horses or equipment. The horse owner understands that under North Carolina law, an equine activity sponsor or equine professional is not liable for the injury to or the death of a participant in equine activities resulting exclusively from the inherent risks of equine activities. Chapter 99E of the North Carolina General Statutes.
